Robert Kiyosaki was born on April 8, 1947, in Hilo, Hawaii. He was raised by his mother, Marjorie O. Kiyosaki, and his father, Ralph H. Kiyosaki, who was an academic and educator. Kiyosaki’s childhood was not easy, and he often had to move from place to place due to his father’s job. Kiyosaki attended Hilo High School and then enrolled at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Marine Engineering from Naval College and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then completed his MBA from a college in Hilo. 

Career

After serving in the Marine Corps, Kiyosaki worked for Xerox Corporation for a few years before starting his own business selling nylon and Velcro surfer wallets. The business was successful, and Kiyosaki used the profits to invest in real estate. He soon discovered that he could make more money investing in real estate than he could in his own business. Kiyosaki then started writing books about investing and personal finance, and his first book, “If You Want to Be Rich and Happy, Don’t Go to School,” was published in 1992.

Kiyosaki’s breakthrough came in 1997 when he wrote “Rich Dad Poor Dad.” The book, which advocates for financial education and building passive income streams, became an instant bestseller and has sold over 32 million copies worldwide.
