MacKenzie Scott Tuttle was born on 7 April 1970, in San Francisco, California. Her father Jason Baker Tuttle ran a financial investment company. At age six, she wrote a 142-page book, The Book Worm. She attended Hotchkiss School. In 1992, She completed her bachelor’s in English from Princeton University. In 1992, she worked as a research assistant for Toni Morrison’s novel Jazz.
Career
MacKenzie was the first employee of Amazon. During the early days of Amazon, she was working on the company’s name, accounts, shipping early orders, and business plans of the company. She negotiated the company’s first freight contract. Jeff and MacKenzie brainstormed many products that could be sold online, they drove Volvo across the United States and spitballed ideas, and wrote his e-commerce business plan on a laptop. Eventually, Jeff settled on books. During the launch, the business was named Cadabra, later it was renamed Amazon.
Her first book was Testing of Luther Albright, which was released in 2005. It took her almost ten years to complete this book. She published her third novel Traps, in 2013. She also published her review on “The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon”.
At the time of Amazon’s IPO, in 1997, after adjusting backward for stock splits, Amazon ended its first day of trading at $2 a share.
