Lil Wayne’s real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. He was born on 27 September 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was taken to Dwayne Michael Turner and Jacinda Carter. Lil Wayne completed his schooling at Eleanor McMain Secondary School and completed his master’s from the University of Houston. At the age of 12, he shot himself in the chest with a 9mm pistol. He attempted suicide because his mother disagreed with his rapping career.

In 1997, he joined Hot Boys. He was the youngest member at the time. Hot Boys released their debut album Get It How U Live!. In the same year, they released Guerrilla Warfare, the album reached the top spot on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #5 on Billboard 200. 

When he was 17, in 1999, Wayne released his debut album Tha Block is Hot, the album was certified platinum and debuted at the #3 spot on Billboard 200.
