George Lucas’s real name is George Walton Lucas, Jr. He was born on 14 May 1944, in Modesto, California, to George Walton Lucas Sr. and Dorothy Ellinore Lucas. As a child, he was quite obsessed with car racing. He has spent most of his high school years racing on the underground circuit and hanging out in garages. A few days before graduating from high school, he had an accident, this incident caused him to lose interest in car racing. He attended Models Store Junior College where he studied sociology literature and anthropology. As a kid, George was very ambitious and his goal was to become a millionaire by the age of 30. Lucas then transferred to the University of Southern California.

Career

After completing his graduation, he tried joining the United States Air Force as an officer but he was suspended for breaking the laws. Later he decided to join military service in Vietnam, but he was rejected from the service due to his diabetes. So he decided to choose filmmaking as a career. He joined USC as a graduate student in film production where he got a scholarship to be part of any film chosen by Warren Bros. The film he chose was Finian Rainbow which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In 1969 George Lucas and Coppola founded an American production company, American Zoetrope. The first film produced by American Zoetrope was THX1138. Later he created a production company Lucasfilm.Ltd., and directed American Graffiti, the film grossed over $140 million worldwide.

In 1977, he directed Star Wars. The film was made on a budget of $11 million. Star Wars became a global phenomenon and also became the highest-grossing film of all time. In the early 1980s, two sequels to Star Wars were released. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Star Wars Trilogy was released by Lucas, the movie was focused on events that happened before the original film. 

He directed several films including Indiana Jones, The Land Before Time, Body Heat, and Labyrinth. The film Indiana Jones has brought more than $2 billion to the box office.

George Lucas is the founder of gaming, filmmaking, movie graphics, and sound companies named Skywalker Sound, THX, Industrial Lights, and Magic, and LucasArts all these companies are part of his parent company, Lucasfilm Ltd.

In 1969, George Lucas was married to Marcia Lou Griffin, who is an award-winning film editor. The couple has adopted three children Amanda Lucas, Katie Lucas, and Jett Lucas. Their divorce was finalized in the late 90s.

In 2006, Lucas began dating Mellody Hobson, chairman of Dreamworks Animation and president of Ariel Investments. The couple married on 22 June 2013.
