Albert Lincoln Roker Jr., widely known as Al Roker, was born on August 20, 1954, in Queens, New York. His father, Albert Lincoln Roker Sr., was a bus driver. He attended Xavier High School in Manhattan and later enrolled at the State University of New York at Oswego, where he studied communications and meteorology. In 1976, he completed his bachelor’s in communications. 

Career

Roker’s broadcasting career began in 1974 when he joined a local CBS affiliate in Syracuse, New York. He later moved on to work for WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C., where he gained experience in weather reporting. In 1983, Roker joined NBC News as a weathercaster, and he eventually became the weather anchor for the iconic morning show, “Today.”

As a member of the “Today” show team, Roker’s warm personality and expertise in meteorology made him a household name. His role expanded beyond weather reporting, as he also conducted interviews and covered various events. Roker has covered significant weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards, bringing crucial information to nationwide viewers.

In 2008, Roker hosted NBC’s Celebrity Family Feud. He also hosted Roker on the Road and Tricked-Out Tailgating. From 1996 to 1997, he hosted Remember This? In 2007, he hosted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. In 2016, he hosted Game On Today.  

In 1995, he began hosting The Al Roker Show on CNBC.

Personal Life

Al Roker has been married twice. He was previously married to television producer Alice Bell, from 1984 to 1994, with whom he has a daughter. Roker is currently married to journalist Deborah Roberts, and together they have a son and a daughter. The couple married in 1995.
