Early Life

Usain Bolt’s real name is Usain St. Leo Bolt. He was born on 21 August 1986, to Jennifer Bolt and Wellesley. He was born in a small town in Jamaica, Sherwood Content. His parents ran a grocery store in the small town. Bolt attended Waldensia Primary School. By the age of 12, he became the fastest runner in the school. He was a great cricket and football fan, his cricket coach noticed his fast running skills and encouraged him to try track and field events. Throughout his high school he was coached by Dwayne Jarrett and Pablo McNeil, a former Olympics sprinter. In 2001,  Bolt won his first annual high school championship medal.

Career

His personal best time of 48.28 s in the 400 meters came in his first Caribbean regional event. At the 2001 IAAF World Youth Championships in Hungary, he made his first appearance on the world stage. He also participated in the Caribbean Junior Championship and Central American. He became the youngest world-junior gold medalist. At the age of 15, he won 200 m with a time of 20.40s. In 2002, he won the IAAF Rising Star Award. In 2003, he won the high school championship in the 200m and 400m races with a record-breaking 20.25s and 45.35s respectively. 

In 2003, he won 4 gold medals at the CARIFTA Games. In 2004, he became a professional runner under his new coach Fitz Coleman. 

At the IAAF World Athletics Final, he won his first ever international medal, he won a bronze medal in that event. In the IAAF World Cup, he won a silver medal. At the 2007 World Championship, he won a silver medal. In 2008, he set a new 100m world record at the Reebok Grand Prix. He ran 100m in 9.72s. At the 2008 Olympics, he won a 100m Gold medal. He broke his previous record of 9.72s and finished the race in 9.89s. He won 3 gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 5 gold, and 2 silver medals at the World Championship. At the 2012 London Olympics, he won the 100m gold medal with a record-breaking time of 9.63s. He is also known as Lightning Bolt. He won gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 4×100m at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. 

In 2017, he retired from running and pursued a football career. He got offers from several major clubs but he retired in 2019 from sports altogether. 

Bolt had a statue of him at National Stadium in Kingston.

Usain Bolt and Kasi Bennett have been dating since 2016. The couple has three children Olympia, Saint Leo, and Thunder. Saint and Thunder are twins. 

In his autobiography, he reveals that suffered from scoliosis as a child. Due to his speed, his nickname is Lighting Bolt. His personality is defined as a fun-loving, laid-back, and relaxed person.
