Early Life

Larry David’s real name is Lawrence Gene David. Larry was born on 2 July 1947, in Brooklyn, New York City to Mortimer Julius “Morty” David and Rose. He has an older brother named Kim. His father was a men’s clothing manufacturer. He was born into a Jewish family. Larry’s family is Jewish. In 1965, Larry David graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School. In 1970, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Maryland, College Park. After completing his bachelor’s he was enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. 

Career

He worked as a limousine driver, store clerk, and historian, and practiced stand-up at night. From 1980 to 1982, he worked as a cast member and writer for ABC’s Fridays. From 1984 to 1985, he was a writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live. 

In 1989, Larry and Jerry Seinfeld created a television series called The Seinfeld Chronicles. The name was shortened to Seinfeld. Larry David is an executive producer and co-creator of the show. From 1989 to 1998, a total of 180 episodes were aired, out of which Larry wrote 62 episodes including the iconic episode The Contest. Entertainment Weekly ranked Seinfeld as the third-best television show of all time. Seinfeld is listed in the TV Guide’s top 50 most outstanding television shows of all time. 

In 2000, Larry wrote Curb of Enthusiasm. The show revisits many of the themes of Seinfeld.

In 1998, Larry directed and wrote Sour Grapes. He also appeared in several films, shows, and series including Whatever Works, New York Stories, Radio Days, The Marriage Ref, Entourage, Clear History, and The Three Stooges.

Personal Life

In 1993, Larry David married Laurie Lennard. They have two daughters, Romy David, and Cazzie David. The couple separated in 2007. In 2020, Larry married Ashley Underwood. Larry is an atheist. 

David is an enthusiastic sports fan, David’s favorite sports teams are the New York Rangers, New York Yankees, New York Knicks, and New York Jets.
