Jim Jones’s real name is Joseph Guillermo Jones II. He was born on 15 July 1976, to Joseph Guillermo Jones and Nancy Jones. He was raised by his maternal grandmother. He was born in The Bronx, New York, and raised in Harlem. He attended a local Catholic school. From a very young age, he was a friend of several famous artists in the industry including Freekey Zekey, Dame Dash, Cameron Giles, AKA Cameron.

Career

He started his career as a hype man for Cameron. Jones and his Hip hop group released their debut album Diplomatic Immunity, the album was certified Gold and peaked at 1 on the U.S. R&B chart and 8th on Billboard 200. 

In 2004, he released his solo debut album On My Way To Church, which peaked at #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart, #3 on Billboard’s Independent Album chart, and #18 on the US Billboard 200 chart. In 2005, he released Harlem: Diary of a Summer, the album peaked at the top spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart, and #5 on Billboard 200. The album sold over 350,000 copies. 

Jones released his third album Hustler’s P.O.M.E. (Product of My Environment), and the album featured Lil Wayne and Dipset members. In 2008, he released a collaborative album M.O.B.: The Album with his rap group ByrdGang. The album peaked at #29 on the Billboard 200. In 2009, he released Pray IV Reign, which peaked at #9 on the Billboard 200 chart. He also released several mixtapes and albums including The Ghost of Rich Porter, The Rooftop, and The Rooftop 2 amongst others.

He appeared in the television series Chrissy & Mr. Jones with Chrissy Lampkin, State Property 2, and Love & Hip Hop: New York. In 2008, Jones founded Byrd Gang. Jim  Jones and Damon Dash co-own Vampire Life Clothing. 

Jones is the owner of the Indore football league team Richmond Roughriders. He is the owner of the skating team Dipskate.
