David Solomon is an American investment banker, DJ, and record producer. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs. Before his role as CEO, he was joint head of the investment banking division, president, and chief operating officer of the company. He is a recreational EDM producer, his stage name is DJ D-Sol. He performed at several music festivals and nightclubs.

Early Life

David Solomon was born on 22 January 1962, in Hartsdale, New York. He was born to Alan Solomon and Sandra. His father was an executive vice president of a small publishing company, and his mother was an audiology supervisor. He attended Edgemont Junior-Senior High School. While in school he worked at local Baskin Robbins. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and government from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. During college, he played on the rugby team. 

Career

After completing his graduation he applied for Goldman Sachs for an analyst position but he was rejected, later, he joined Irving Trust. In 1986, he joined Drexel Burnham as a commercial paper salesman. After Drexel Burnham, he joined Bear Stearns as a high risk bond seller. In the late 1990s, he worked with several Goldman Sachs managers. In 2006, he was promoted to Goldman’s investment banking division. In January 2015, he was paid a base salary of $1.85 million. He is on the board of directors of the Robin Hood Foundation. After working so many years at Goldman, he became chairman of the company in 2019 and CEO in 2018. 

In 2018, he was paid a base salary of $2 million and earned $23 million in total compensation. As of this writing, David owns 230,000 shares of Goldman Sachs. At a price of $346 per share, his stake in the company is around $78.2 million. 

David is a recreational EDM using the stage name D-Sol. In 2018, his debut single didn’t Stop was released. In 2020, he released Someone Like You. In 2018, David and Atlantic Records founded Payback Records. In 1989, David Solomon married Mary Elizabeth Solomon. They divorced in 2018. 

In 2018, his personal assistant, Nicolas DeMeyer stole about 500 bottles from his rare wine collection valued at $1.2 million, out of which seven were from the French estate Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. Later, his manager committed suicide.
