At the age of 26, Dave Ramsey had a portfolio worth over $4 million. In 1987, when the Competitive Equality Banking Act took effect several banks changed their ownership and recalled his $1.2 million loan because he was over-leveraged. He was unable to pay and filed for bankruptcy in 1988.
